On Purpose

Write down what you want your relationship with your spouse to look like at this time next year.  Maybe you are in a bad relationship – meaning you are in a marriage in which there is little satisfaction, joy, or true companionship as you would describe it.  What would it look like a year from now if it was good?

Maybe you are in a good relationship – meaning you have a marriage in which you experience joy, satisfaction, and true companionship as you would describe it.  What would it look like a year from now if it was great?

The next question is, “Will you live the next year filtering your decisions through the question, ‘Will my reaction help us develop that good (or great) marriage?’”  It will take pro-active instead of reactive living, but this is doable.  It will take self-discipline, but you can accomplish it.  It will take repentance, but that’s always good for us anyway.  It will take sacrifice, but everything worth having does.

What do you want your marriage to look like?  Will you live with intentionality to get there?
